How to make my perfect under eye concealer…

So for those of you who know me personally, it is no great surprise that I am rarely  happy with things the way they are.  Under eye concealer is no exception.

After years of quite afternoons alone in a store, with no cleaning left to do, no customers to service and no boxes left to unpack, I found myself surrounded with almosts.  What is an almost you might ask?  The cosmetic world is full of almosts.  They are good products that are almost great.  They just need that little extra that seems to get sacrificed in the process of making a cosmetic appeal to a wide audience.  I fortunately do not have a wide audience.  Mine is nice and narrow.  So for those of you fellow wanna-be mad scientist, cosmetic product junkies it’s time to clean out your almost drawer in the effort to make a GREAT!

First things first.  This is by no means a truly scientific, healthy or recommended means of creating an under eye concealer.  You are doing this at your own risk.  I am not a doctor, scientist, chemist or anything else that required extensive education past the “some college” choice in the education drop down tab.  I am not at all liable for any burning, itchy, redness or any other sensation caused by mixing products.  Proceed at your own risk.

Still with me?  Ooh, you’re brave.  Ok.  here is what you’ll need.

In the depths of the cosmetic discard drawer/bin/box/bag (whatever your storage method) there is a medium to full coverage creamy concealer.  This will typically work as a great base. Pick one closest matching the color of your under eye skin.   OK if slightly darker, b/c it will be diluted.

Next you will need an under eye, anti-puffiness gel.  My favorite is No Puffery from Origins, but H2O, Vichy and several other lines make them.

Liquid highlight/ illuminizer with a gold/peach tone.  Absolutely No pink or white based.

Small sample pot or pill container.

Directions…

Starting with a clean, dry sample pot or small seal-able container (plastic or glass please), Squeeze a dime sized amount of concealer into the container.

Next you’ll need you de-puffing gel.  This must be gel, no creams.  It gives the concealer a soft and easy to spread texture, while working somewhat like a primer to smooth and fill any tine lines in the skins surface.  Not to mention taking care of any post-party puffiness.  Squeeze in a large pea sized amount.  Don’t mix yet.

The highlighter is last.  Anywhere from 2 - 5 drops of liquid highlighter will do.  I prefer about 3 or 4, but this is a personal preference kinda thing.  The highlighter helps to brighten the eye area by diffusing light.  It also helps to soften fine lines by bouncing light away.

Now with the butt of your concealer brush stir until a creamy, soup has been achieved.  Think concentrated clam chowder soup, without the chunks of course.  After a smooth blend has been achieved pat around your eye area.  Build as necessary.

So for those of you who tried it, let me know what you think.  If you love it, you are welcome.  For those of you who hate it, I said it was my perfect under eye concealer. you’ll just have to figure out your own.
