If you don’t know…
On a daily basis I am approached by women of all ages, races, and types seeking a foundation that will exceed all of their expectations. The only problem is, they don’t know exactly what their expectations are.
When a woman asks me to help her find a foundation I ask one very important question:”Why do you wear foundation?” Go ahead answer it for yourself right now. We’ll all wait.
Not too hard right. There is no need to be overly critcale, just honest. No judgments here, unless of course your answer sounds like “I don’t know, because everyone is supposed to wear foundation.”
Some of you are shaking your head, the same way I do, thinking that this is only an occasional response and that I am exaggerating the amount of times I get this answer. Some of you are suddenly worried that you haven’t been wearing foundation and are startled to learn that “everyone” should. The rest of you are sitting there thinking to yourself that everyone should wear foundation and there is nothing wrong with this statement. The first to groups can pick a different post to read, if you are in the last group you’ll have to stay until the end.
Not everyone needs foundation. Foundation is meant to even out uneven tone and discoloration in the skin. If you have uneven tone or discoloration in your skin then you might find foundation helpful.
If you have lines and wrinkles, then you are out of luck. Try a primer or other line filling agent.
It is also helpful to know…
What type of coverage level you prefer? Light= you see mostly skin through the makeup, medium= you see equal amounts skin & foundation, Full= It’s all makeup baby!
What type of finish? Matte= no light reflected, Dewy= some light reflected, Illuminating= disco ball move over (ok, not exactly, but you get the point).
If you like an exact color match, a little lighter than your natural tone or a little darker. I recommend and EXACT match. Do not try to find a foundation when you have your “summer color” and are trying to guess what you will fade to. It most likely won’t be the same as last year, just wait until you are that color.
Please, the next time you decide that you need new foundation, ask yourself these general questions. You’ll find the formula you need and the only thing left to question will be getting the right color match.
As always if you have any questions or comments post them below or email me at beautysolved@yahoo.com.
