Un-Varnished Product Review: Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder
I love listening to men who are really into cars. They can rattle of features of different makes and models like the features are significant information that everyone should understand and appreciate. Dual-Cam, Hemi, twin exhaust, ABS, etc. I have only a general clue as to what all that means, but it sounds good. So, when I heard the stats on the New Smashbox Halo powder, I new what all the info meant, but wasn’t sure if it was going to turn out to be a Rolls Royce or a lemon (ok, no more car references, promise).
The Stats…
According to clinical studies after 10 minutes there is a 33% decrease in the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes. After 6 weeks of use, there is a 67% decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles overall.
Oil-free, Talc-free, and Paraben-free.
Winner of the HBA Award for Best Prestige Packaging for HALO’s built in shaver so you have the control over the perfect amount every time with no mess.
It’s advanced formulation of pure gold, 48 minerals, 11 amino acids and a powerful peptide deliver powerful anti-aging benefits while the patented hydration system continuously revitalizes skin for a brighter, more radiant complexion all day.
THE PRO’s …
Whew, ok so all that stuff is pretty good.
The glow…Halo gives your skin a glow that is somewhat like a halo. Soft, not glittery, luminous, like you are lit from within.
The shaver… seriously the coolest packaging for a loose powder. It’s like grinding your own coffee beans. You just turn a little dials and you have a little freshly ground powder ready to wear. I wonder if Bare Minerals is going to make any packaging changes now?
Feel…If you are normal to dry, you will love it! Oily? um, you might, but I would try it out first before you buy. The reason being that it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, but it does feel hydrating. Almost like when you first put on moisturizer, but the feeling doesn’t go away. I wore it for 12 hours the other day, it was consistent all day. Almost a little too moist feeling in my t-zone, but not bad.
Coverage… You could really build up the coverage with this. For those of you that are Mineral foundation fans, you could definitely wear this as a foundation and get similar results.
Lines & Wrinkles… The clinical studies are impressive. However, if they weren’t I doubt that we would have heard them. While I haven’t been wearing it long enough to see a permanent reduction in signs of aging, I have seen it smooth over skin easily without a primer. I haven’t found many powders that can make the same claim. This leads me to believe that there isn’t many textures that Halo couldn’t improve.
CON’s
This will be a short list but…
The little kabuki brush that comes with it sheds. A little more than I expected. Smashbox has really nice brushes normally, I’m wondering if they didn’t skimp on the quality of this one a little.
Colors…There are 4 colors; Fair, Light, Medium & Dark. I would try them on to be safe. If you are planning to wear this as a foundation or as a powder might depend on how good the match is. They look a little darker in the container.
Too Hydrating… I almost felt like Halo was a little too moist in my t-zone, which is were I can get a little oily. If you are oily, I suggest you try it out for a day before you buy it. Just to make sure.
The Conclusion…All in all, I don’t really have any complaints, except for the price. I understand the price, I just wish it wasn’t $59.00. I do think that this is one product that could really give Bare Minerals a run for their money. Halo really exceeds expectations and is a great option for those who like mineral makeup, but who have a hard time wearing a dry foundation. The packaging is awesome, and is a little too much fun. Another great thing from Smashbox. Halo is worth the hype (& the $59.00), as long as you are not oily.
PS. Just so no one thinks I have a completely blind love affair with Smashbox, I would recommend staying away from the $59.00 Rapture Blockbuster pallet. The shadow colors don’t seem to be the same quality as normal. The plastic the container looks a little brittle.
