The Olive Oil Experiment Week 1

Published by alflats02 at 10:23 am under advice, health, makeup, mineral, product reviews, skincare Edit This

New Year; New Experiments!

I know *sigh* that the concept of using one cleanser (& I don’t mean bar soap) on a regular basis will be a little hard for some of you to swallow. The idea of using a pre-cleanser before your face wash might sound like gibberish. But many skin care lines recommend that you use an essential oil based pre-cleansing step before your actual cleanser.

The reasoning is that oil attracts oil (true); therefore the pre- cleanser will attract any surface skin oil, dirt & make-up, which will leave your cleanser free to remove any environmental bad guys like free radicals. The big kahuna’s of pre mature aging.

Now times being as they are, instead of trying a $30.00 Pre-cleanser, I am going to use Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Essential/plant-based oils have a similar structure to the oils in our skin. They CANNOT clog a pore. Olive oil is also said to be rich in antioxidants, which will help in cleansing the skin of the evil, youth- robbing free radicals.

I am going to be following the Olive Oil with my favorite face wash in the world…Origins Checks & Balances. I have combination skin. Normal to oily in the “T” zone and normal to dry in my cheeks, just depending on the season. This face wash works well for my type of skin. If you are dry or really oily all over your face, it would not be a good choice. If you will be trying this at home you will want to make sure that you have a good cleanser to follow up with.

In preparation for this experiment I have been pretty lax in my skin care routine over the past 2 weeks. This should allow enough time for a new crop of black heads and dead skin to appear.

Day 1: Night time

With my $5.99 bottle of E.V. Olive Oil in hand & a cotton ball I generously massage the oil into my face. My eye makeup almost melts off. Good sign. No stinging or sensitivity around my eyes. Another good sign. Over all it feels a little heavy, but not unlike a full coverage foundation. After I have it massaged in, paying extra attention to my more congested areas (nose & chin) I jump into the shower and rinse it off. Following up with my face wash. All in all, my face felt very soft. And not a trace of oil left behind.  Feels the same way next morning, nice and soft & clean.

I just read all of your blogs. Great work! I am totally going to try this oil trick. I tried the Dermalogica Pre-cleanser a while back and it broke me out. I think it was because I was using it wrong and I used it in the summer time. I am going to try this with some Organic Grapeseed Oil. It is my favorite of the vegetable oils and is light and should do the trick.

Happy Blogging! :) Love, your cos in FL

BTW. I am totally going to get some of the Halo.
